Student Exchange and Study Abroad

What is 'Student Exchange' program

The purpose of the program is to assist students in the awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of both the diversity and commonality of cultures. The program enables students to take a few classes at ‘host’ institutions, but not to study for the whole degree program. All course credits earned at host institutions are transferred to students’ ‘home’ institutions’ transcripts.

Eligibility

The Student Exchange is open to undergraduate students only in their Sophomore, Junior or early Senior years (with 30 units or more). A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above is required with a good standing in Academics & Financial status. The prospective student must also have no history of disciplinary issues.

Program Benefit

Students pay Tuition fee and Room and Board fee (housing & meals where applicable) at ‘home’ institution. Students then 'exchange' – so the USIU-Africa student on the exchange program goes to the ‘host institution’ and utilizes the resources deposited by the exchange student at that institution, and the visiting exchange student comes to USIU-Africa to utilize the resources deposited here by ‘partner’ USIU-Africa exchange student. Monies deposited are non-refundable to exchange students.

Please note: The arrangement above is the only way USIU-Africa students afford to go study abroad using resources / money deposited at USIU-Africa. In normal circumstances, it would be too expensive for USIU-Africa students to go study abroad in countries like USA, Japan, Sweden, Germany, etc

Application Deadline and Contacts

Interested students should send in their application letters (along with the parental/guardian financial guarantee letter and copy of valid Passport) by Friday, February 21, 2025.to: Kellen Njagi, Senior International Students Officer (Frieda Brown Student Center – 1st Floor), Students may select different institutions (at most 3) but must indicate the priorities.

Your letter of application should include the reasons why you should be selected to represent USIU-Africa at the selected university. Please mention participation in extra curriculum activities and community service (in USIU-Africa and off campus, if applicable). Also, include your University Id. Number, current email address and phone contacts. Students will be expected to submit a written report on their experience upon their return to USIU-Africa (softcopy and pictures recommended).

N/B: Students will be responsible for the following:

Deposit of Tuition fee, Transcript fee, Room, Food, Books, Health Insurance and other personal expenses (Deposits to be made by Friday, June 13, 2025)
Purchase of a return airline ticket.
Valid Passport.
Before submitting the applications, students will be expected to visit ‘host’ institutions’ websites (via website links provided for host institutions) to check courses that are offered and that are almost similar to those offered at USIU-Africa. Students will then confirm with their (USIU) course advisors if the courses selected will earn then Credit Transfers in case they take those courses abroad.

Please also note: Fees are subject to an annual review, which may be between 5% to 10% increase. For preparation purposes, please put this into consideration. Confirmation of the amount to be deposited into your USIU-Africa Student Account will be made by end of May, 2025.

Yamanashi Gakuin University (YGU), Kofu (Japan) Exchange Program	YGU aims to nurture individuals who can contribute to society with a deep understanding of Japanese culture and a broad, international perspective, thus cultivating a rich cultural awareness and creativity in each of its students. YGU Faculty of Sport Science aims to contribute to the promotion of sport in Japan and abroad by training personnel capable of facilitating a virtuous cycle between top sport (sport for athletes) and community sport (sport for all). APU University (Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific - Japan) Exchange Program	The main focus of your studies at APU will not simply be memorizing facts or passively listening to lectures. Rather, you will begin tackling complex problems our world is facing through discussions and interactive classes alongside students and faculty from a wide variety of cultural, socio-economic and religious backgrounds. HS-Bremen (Germany) Exchange Program	Bremen University of Applied Sciences is constantly working at the improvement of structures and processes to reach a very high quality standard in teaching, studies and research. Science Po University, France - Exchange Program	The Paris campus is Sciences Po's original campus. It is located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, five minutes from the Louvre Museum and the Latin Quarter, and close to many other monuments and the major institutions of the French Republic. The campus provides several courses taught in English. Students are introduced to the basics of law, economics, history, political humanities, political science and sociology.
