Face Your Fears, Embrace Challenges, and Lead with Confidence - A conversation with Dr. Stephen Kamanu Ichatha

On Monday, November 11, 2024, USIU-Africa data science students were inspired by a remarkable guest speaker, Dr. Stephen Kamanu Ichatha, a seasoned technologist and organizational behavior expert currently serving as a Senior Program Manager at Google specializing in Machine Learning Technical Infrastructure Deployment Engineering.
Dr. Ichatha’s journey to Google is a testament to the power of perseverance, humility, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Starting his career at the Carl’s Jr fast-food restaurant, he gradually climbed the professional ladder, honing his skills and expanding his expertise. His 16-year tenure at Verizon, where he excelled in network and cybersecurity, further solidified his reputation as a tech industry leader.
During his insightful talk, Dr. Ichatha emphasized the importance of growth mindset and effective leadership in achieving success. He underscored the value of continuous learning and the impact of mentors and colleagues. To add value to any organization, he recommended focusing on revenue generation and cost reduction.
To achieve these goals, Dr. Ichatha highlighted three key skills:
- Process Engineering: Identifying inefficiencies and optimizing processes through a systematic approach.
- Program Management: Bringing together diverse teams to achieve shared objectives.
