Biography:

Dr. Fatuma Ahmed Ali is an Associate Professor of International Relations (IR) at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) of the United States International University –(USIU-A), Nairobi, Kenya. She is also a Visiting Faculty and an External researcher of the Interuniversity Institute for Social Development & Peace (IUDESP) of the Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Dr. Ahmed Ali is a trainer and an Independent Consultant in the field of Social Development, Gender, Security, Peace, Conflict, Curriculum Review, Accreditation and Countering Violent Extremism. She has been involved in curriculum development, program learning outcomes assessment, acted as an external examiner, taught graduate and post-graduate programs, supervised graduate and post-graduate students locally and internationally. Other professional experiences include working as the Co-director of Care Highway International projects in Kenya, security expert assistant for the European Union Election Observation Mission, student’s coordinator at Universitat, Jaume I, Castellón, Spain, primary school teacher, project coordinator and librarian. Dr Ahmed Ali has served as an International Observer of Development and Educational projects of SMARA (a local NGO in Castellón, Spain) and the Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain in Saharawi Refugee camps in Tinduf, Algeria. She is also a Board member of the NGO Coalition of Violence Against Women (COVAW). She is an academic activist in the area of Violence against Women and has publication both in Spanish and English.

September 2007: European Doctorate with Distinction from Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. (PhD Dissertation title: WOMEN AND WAR: Deconstructing the notion of victim and reconstructing their role as peace builders).

April 2007: International Master in Peace, Conflict and Development studies (Honors) from UNESCO Chair for Philosophy of Peace, (POP-Official Postgraduate Program (MA/ Mphil and PhD) of the Universitat Jaume, I Castellón, Spain.

October 2005: Master of Philosophy (MPhil) (Honors) in “Peace, Conflict and Democracy” from Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain.

January 2001 to April 2002: International Master in Peace and Development Studies, from the MA Program of Peace and Development Studies of the Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain.

June 1997 to June 2000: BA degree in International Relations (Honors) with Minors in Sociology and Management from United States International University – Nairobi, Kenya.
