Dr. Ruth Owino

Assistant Professor of Corporate Communication

Biography:

Dr. Ruth Owino is a seasoned academic and communication professional with over twelve years of experience in research, teaching, and practical engagement. She is dedicated to advancing the field of communication and fostering academic and professional excellence.

Dr. Owino has previously served as a Lecturer in Media and Communication and as a Coordinator for Conferences, Editorials, and Publications. She has supervised and examined numerous postgraduate students, making a significant contribution to academic growth and knowledge development.

Her consulting experience spans notable organizations and research initiatives, including the National Democratic Institute, the Africa Environmental Health and Pollution Management Programme - Kenya, the American Chambers of Commerce Business Summit (AmCHAM), and the Nakuru Living Lab's REFOOTURE project, funded by the IKEA Foundation.

Dr. Owino has played a pivotal role in curriculum development, creating Diploma, Bachelor’s, and Master’s programs in Journalism, Public Relations, and Communication for various universities. Her professional development includes certifications in Fact-Checking and Information Verification (Africa-Check), Competency-Based Curriculum (KICD), Strategic Leadership Development (Kenya School of Government), and Strategic and Crisis Communication (Embassy of the USA - Nairobi).

A published scholar and advocate for open and inclusive digital spaces, Dr. Owino is an active member of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) and the East Africa Communication Association (EACA). She believes that public policy, media literacy, and the evolving digital landscape are critical to shaping the future of communication and education in Africa.
