Dr. Nyanoti is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media Studies. He holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Nairobi, a BA (Literature and Linguistics), MA in Communication Studies, and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi.
Dr, Nyanoti worked in the media for 17 years – at the Kenya Times, the Standard and Nation Media Group’s 'The EastAfrican' before moving to academia. He has taught journalism courses at the University of Nairobi, Daystar University, and Tangaza College. He joined USIU-Africa as a full-time lecturer in 2010 after teaching for two years as adjunct.
His teaching courses are News Reporting and Writing, Introduction to News Editing, Fundamentals of Photography, Theories of Communication, Communication Research, International Mass Media, Media Law and Media Ethics. His research interest areas are Journalism Studies, Media and Representation, political economy of the media. He deploys Semiotics as methodology to study media texts. He has published articles in international peer-reviewed journals in these areas. Dr Nyanoti is the Education Effectiveness (Quality Assurance) Committee representative of the School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts at USIU-Africa.
