Criminal Justice Club Launches New Presidential Campaign Simulation Game
By Kyan Orapa
On November 27, the Criminal Justice Club, in collaboration with Arctive Citizens, launched an exciting new game titled Ballot Battle: The Campaign Trail, developed to address voter apathy and provide a fun, engaging way to strengthen political literacy and promote active citizenship. The event featured a live demonstration of how the game is played, followed by spirited competitions and prize giveaways.
The concept behind Ballot Battle is a dynamic simulation of a presidential campaign. Three participants are chosen to act as campaigners, each vying for the presidency. The challenge, however, is far from simple: players must answer questions on real political issues affecting modern-day Kenya. Some of these questions are intentionally tough, placing campaigners in the hot seat and prompting the central question - will they bend the truth to win votes, or uphold integrity at the cost of popularity?
The event brought together over 50 students to witness the official launch and be among the first to try the game. Slayo “Itsslayo,” a prominent Master of Ceremonies and media personality, and part of the Arctive Citizens, called on young people to become the change they wish to see in Kenya. “You - the youth and participants at the event- should carry the same fire and passion you had for the game to the ballot box when voting for your country,” she said.
The program began with an engaging icebreaker led by the Arctive Citizens team, setting the tone for the activities ahead. Participants then entered a tournament-style gameplay session, where the winner received a full, free version of the game. The players debated on issues such as medical insurance and poverty alleviation in Kenya.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to continued partnership between the Criminal Justice Club and Active Citizens. This collaboration reflects USIU-Africa’s dedication to fostering student-led initiatives that strengthen leadership, community engagement, and real-world learning.
