The Writers Club Hosts A Slam Poetry And Music Night
By Aswani Eugene
On November 13, the Writers Club, in collaboration with the Music Club, hosted the Slam Poetry and Music night aimed at commemorating Mental Health Week under the theme, “In between the lines: voices of mind.” The event sought to create mental health awareness and bring together talented authors and poets to use literature in expressing themselves while also highlighting the Writers’ Club by showcasing its essence to the community.
The evening was designed as a creative showcase rather than a competition, giving participants the freedom to perform original or published work. A rich blend of poetry, spoken word, and short stories filled the room. The program unfolded in two phases: the first concluded with an outstanding performance by the Music Club, followed by a short break. The second phase featured powerful poetry and spoken-word presentations that left the audience deeply moved.
The event revealed immense talent, both in writing and performance. Creativity, passion, and courage were evident in every act, affirming the Writers’ Club’s mission to elevate and nurture literary artistry within the university.
The event marked an important moment for the USIU-Africa community, demonstrating the growing value students place on creative expression and mental well-being. The night highlighted a shared commitment to fostering empathy, encouraging dialogue, and celebrating diverse voices - signaling a new chapter in which creativity becomes a central part of campus culture and student support.
The Writers’ Club stands as a beacon to USIU-Africa’s commitment to nurturing a culture of creativity, growth, and collaboration. It marks the beginning of a transformative journey, one that will continue to shape the literary growth and professional futures of students for years to come. The Club aims to build a community of authors, nurture talents, cultivate the writing spirit, and create opportunities to showcase and publish the written artwork.
