Legal Elevate Summit: Breaking The Mould
By Kyan Orapa
On October 16, the Criminal Justice Club, in partnership with Law and Behold, held the 2025 edition of the Legal Elevate Summit, themed “Breaking the Mould.” This year’s summit represented a bold reimagining of legal and justice discourse in Kenya and beyond. Leading a pivotal conversation about the future of law and justice, this event drew participation from several universities, including Africa Nazarene University, Riara University, and many others.
In a world marked by rapid technological, cultural, and societal shifts, law and criminal justice professions are called to evolve. The summit served as a dynamic platform for dialogue, mentorship, and discovery, one designed to redefine how law and justice are studied, practiced, and ultimately perceived. It aimed to inspire the next generation of legal minds and practitioners to move beyond traditional boundaries, embrace innovation and inclusivity, and reimagine justice for tomorrow’s world.
While speaking about the creation and purpose of the summit’s theme, Melvin Malemba, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Law and Behold, inspired the audience with the quote, “Where two or three are gathered, change can happen.” Sharing the same sentiments, Dr. Victor Boiyo, Deputy Vice Chancellor – Student Life, highlighted the importance of Breaking the Mould in justice.
The most anticipated moment of the summit was the keynote address by Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga, themed “The Courage to Break the Mould: Integrity, Leadership & Law.” Justice Maraga's address focused on finding clarity and purpose, as well as balancing personal faith with professional duty in law and politics.
The event also featured three panel discussions. The first one, featuring some of the leading women in the legal field, explored women’s experiences and challenges in the legal profession. The second panel discussion was titled “Law X Music X IP” under the theme “Contracts, Clout and Copyright.” It explored intellectual property rights and contracts in the entertainment industry.
The final session examined content creation and modern law, focusing on monetization, structure, and legal compliance.
