USIU-Africa offers a vibrant campus life, allowing students to experience a diverse community with 50+ student and sports clubs, and cultural events that enrich their university journey. Students experience education beyond the classroom - leadership development, student life, and personal growth in a safe, modern campus.

This is the case for Selina Zenna, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology student. Besides her studies, Selina has dedicated herself to Taekwondo, a sport that she claims has changed her life since she became a member of the Warriors (USIU-Africa taekwondo team) in 2023.

“When I first started the sport, I never imagined I would grow from the beginner I was to representing Kenya on an international stage,” she says. “Taekwondo taught me discipline, focus, and perseverance, values that I have also applied in my academics and personal life,” she concludes.

Selina has achieved several milestones that have turned her university journey into an enriching experience. She has won gold medals in all Kenya University Sports (KUSA) Games and in the East Africa Games held in Maseno University. In February 2024, she was honored to be awarded the Best Player during the National Playoffs held at Kenyatta University. She was also awarded the Best Female Taekwondo player during the USIU-Africa Gala awards.

In July 2025, she represented Kenya and USIU-Africa at the FISU World University Games held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, and later competed in the Grand Prix Challenge in Muju, South Korea, as part of the Kenya National team. According to Selina, competing against top-ranked athletes from around the world was very inspiring, humbling, and a learning moment. An experience she will forever carry along with her.

Furthermore, on October 18, 2025, Selina won the national team and was selected as part of the team to represent Kenya in the World Taekwondo Under 21 Championship. This serves as proof that with hard work, consistency, and putting God first in everything, dreams really do come true.

While reminiscing about her journey, Selina highlights that Taekwondo has given her more than medals; it has given her confidence, purpose, a platform to inspire others, and brought her closer to God through prayer in all hard times, anxieties, and success in my Games. She remains inspired by her vision to compete in major International Championships, including the Olympics.
