Bridging Academia And Industry: Dr Dorothy Njoroge's Impact Through Research, Public Engagement, And Global Industry Partnerships

Dr. Dorothy Njoroge, an Associate Professor of Journalism in the School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts, is a true embodiment of the highly qualified faculty that USIU-Africa promises its students. She has maintained contact with the industry, constantly participating in industry-related initiatives and contributing to the field of knowledge through research, presentations at conferences, and participation in panel discussions.

On October 22, Dr. Njoroge took part in the Inaugural National Science Research Translation Congress held at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), where she shared tips on how to improve the relationship between researchers and the media. The Congress organized by the Star newspaper brought together Science researchers, the media, and policymakers to discuss how to bridge science, policy, and practice through the power of effective communication for development.

Prior to that, on July 12-16, Dr. Njoroge presented at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Annual Conference at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She presented a paper evaluating protest writings during the Gen Z uprising under the Communication in Post-and Neo-Authoritarian Societies. This conference brought together over 1700 Communication researchers from across the world to share their research in various areas of communication. Dr. Njoroge is on the International Council of IAMCR, having been elected to a four-year term in 2024.

In June, Dr. Njoroge was invited as a speaker during the Africa Public Relations Association (APRA) 36th Annual Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration. She presented a paper on the use of PR Techniques in the #Rejectfinancebill2024 Gen Z Protests in Kenya, a case study on digital advocacy. The conference was held at Paradise Pride Inn Hotel in Mombasa.

Additionally, over her summer break, she attended several other workshops, including the African Tech Policy Summit and the UN Women’s Generation Equality Media Forum. Furthermore, she has been invited to speak during the African Women in Media (AWiM) annual conference in December. She looks forward to continuing her active industry engagement.

With Dr. Dorothy’s active and remarkable contributions in the industry, she continues to position herself as an expert and trendsetter able to provide world-class education to the students through innovative teaching & learning methods that incorporate current trends.
