By Alumni Relations Department

Hannah Muchiri is a seasoned finance and administration professional with over a decade of experience navigating complex financial operations, budgeting, and reporting within both non-profit and corporate environments. Her career is marked by a commitment to precision, compliance, and driving organizational growth.

Starting as an Accountant at Summit Institute of Professional Limited, Hannah honed her skills in streamlining processes and ensuring financial accuracy. This foundation led her to Reach Alternatives (REALs), formerly Japan Center for Conflict Prevention, where she progressively took on roles of increasing responsibility - from Finance and Administration Assistant to Finance and Administration Officer, and now Operations Manager, leading the South Sudan team in implementing projects in Juba. Her academic role as a part-time lecturer at the Kenya College of Accountancy University further enhanced her facilitation, leadership, and research skills.

Key accomplishments in Hannah’s career include leading a transformative peace-building project in Gumbo, South Sudan, empowering youth and women with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, and successfully leading an emergency response project in Mangateen IDP camp, Juba, providing crucial assistance to communities in need. She has also managed budgets for United Nations (UN) agencies such as United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and UN Women in partnership with REALs, ensuring efficient resource management, cost control, risk mitigation, and overall project success in Nairobi. Additionally, she participated in an exchange program for UNDP through the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Djibouti, aimed at developing synergies in addressing contemporary peace and security challenges in the region.

According to Hannah, her academic journey at United States International University-Africa, where she earned a Master of Business Administration- Strategic Management, Class of 2024, was transformative. “It refined my strategic thinking and leadership skills and allowed me to forge lasting connections,” says Hannah. “I fondly remember unforgettable moments with friends, whether studying in the library, attending social gatherings, or simply enjoying the university's beautiful surroundings. The demanding CAPSIM simulations and research assignments deepened my understanding of strategic management and strengthened bonds with my classmates,” she concludes. She notes that this academic pursuit, combined with her bachelor’s degree in Business Management (Accounting Option) from Moi University, Class of 2016, and CPAK certification, Class of 2012, from Kenya College of Accountancy University, has equipped her with a robust theoretical and practical understanding essential for her career.

Beyond her professional roles, Hannah is passionate about community development. At Reach Alternatives, she advises the board on compliance with the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Board (Kenya) regulations. She also coaches and mentors community-based organizations in Eastleigh and Kamukunji Constituency through various programs, and develops training manuals to enhance their financial management, which is crucial for fundraising as they give back to their communities.

Hannah explains that her journey is a testament to her dedication to financial excellence, coupled with a deep commitment to positively impacting communities both locally and internationally. She also takes pride in being a mother to three beautiful children, who complement her busy work life and remind her of her courage, resilience, and limitless love.
