By CTW Team

During the 47th Commencement Ceremony held on September 27, Evelyn Mmabila Adongo, a Bachelor of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics graduate, received the 2025 Community Service Award, which recognizes a well-rounded student who exemplifies the university’s core values through community engagement during their time at USIU-Africa.

Evelyn was recognized for being a very committed and outstanding student leader and role model, actively involved in service to the university community. She demonstrated sustained and meaningful service since May 2021, when she began her leadership journey as Hostel Representative for Mastercard Foundation Scholars. She also served as Chairperson of the Dean’s Residence Advisory Board (DRAB) and Electoral College Representative for the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. For over four years, she consistently gave herself to service, both on campus and beyond.

Evelyne distinguished herself as a servant leader and innovator. She co-founded the Epi/Bio Club, ensuring the voice of Epidemiology and Biostatistics students within USIU-Africa. She also volunteered, emceed, and performed at numerous campus events, always stepping up without expectation of recognition. Her ability to mobilize peers and inspire collective action is a mark of her leadership. Furthermore, she maintained a clean disciplinary record and is widely regarded as a student of integrity, humility, and selflessness by both peers and faculty.

Moreover, her impact extends far beyond the university. She is the founder of Sisi wa Africa, an NGO focused on the decolonization of the Black mind, and she runs a YouTube channel dedicated to educating and empowering African youth about their heritage and identity. Since 2021, she has supported women in Northern Ghana’s shea butter industry, connecting their products to markets in Kenya and reinvesting proceeds into family livelihoods. By introducing Maasai sandals from Kariokor into Ghana, she has promoted cross-border trade and sustainable income. Her current development of an e-commerce platform to link African products across the continent demonstrates her broad, innovative, and transformative impact.
