By Lilian Aleyo
On August 8-14, the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SPHS) hosted the International Pharmacy Students’ Federation (IPSF) World Congress, a premier global gathering that brought together pharmacy students, academics, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders from over 60 countries.

The congress provided a vibrant platform for advancing dialogue on the future of pharmacy education, practice, research, and innovation. Participants engaged in diverse activities, including: scientific sessions that addressed pharmaceutical innovation, clinical practice, regulatory frameworks, and digital health in pharmacy; workshops and trainings that built capacity in leadership, entrepreneurship, patient-centered care, and global health advocacy; networking forums that connected students, academics, policymakers, and industry partners to foster meaningful partnerships; and cultural and social events that celebrated diversity and strengthened international collaboration across the pharmacy community.

The university sponsored 23 students to participate in this event, five of whom submitted abstracts. The students went on to win first place in the industrial kills, compounding, and patient counseling (Advanced) categories, and secured second place in the compounding and clinical skills (Advanced) categories.

The students and faculty who took part in this event not only represented the university but also gained invaluable knowledge, exposure, and networks that will continue to enrich our academic and professional community. USIU-Africa’s participation in this congress underscores its commitment to nurturing globally competitive health professionals and positions the university as an active contributor to shaping the global discourse on pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare delivery. This was a milestone engagement that provided insights that should be leveraged to further strengthen pharmacy education, research, and practice at USIU-Africa.
