PECCs Movie Night Blends Film, Fun, And Mental Health Awareness

Recently, the Peer Educators and Counselors Club (PECC) hosted its 2025 Movie Night under the theme “Community: Turning Awareness into Action.” Held on campus, the event brought together 108 students from different academic programs for not only a film screening but also for an eventful evening of connection, reflection, and student-led creativity.

The chosen film, Good Will Hunting (1997), follows the story of a troubled young man with extraordinary talent who wrestles with trauma, vulnerability, and the difficult journey of accepting help. Its themes of emotional struggle, mentorship, healing, and self-worth resonated deeply with the audience.

Beyond the screening, PECC enriched the experience through several add-ons that created a lively, interactive atmosphere. These activities include a Polaroid photo booth that offered students the chance to take home instant photos. This became one of the most popular parts of the night; free popcorn and lollipops were distributed, creating a relaxed and festive mood; and documenting the event with high-quality photos by a student-led media team, coordinated by Raymond Kiunga. Edited images were made available shortly after through an online gallery, giving students the chance to revisit and share memories.

This Movie Night also marked the soft launch of PECC’s new sticker initiative, led by Michael Mwangi. Designed by students, the stickers aim to raise funds while spreading powerful mental health messages in a fun and artistic way. This event reminded everyone that community care and flexibility go hand in hand. PECC’s strength lies in its ability to turn challenges into opportunities, and its commitment to making emotional wellness a campus-wide conversation. Many students shared that the movie made them think about their own mental health, relationships, and inner potential, with several newcomers expressing their excitement about joining future PECC activities.

If you missed this Movie Night, don’t worry, PECC is just getting started. More events, more ideas, and more moments of connection are on the way.
