Mastercard Foundation Scholar’s film to be screened at Filamu International Student Film Festival

Get Involved, a student film written and directed by Joshua Kasozi, a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, has been selected for screening at the upcoming Filamu International Student Film Festival. The festival, which celebrates student filmmakers across Kenyan universities, will be held at Multimedia University on April 29 and 30, 2025.
The film, which tackles the theme of political apathy among youth, is an attempt to provoke critical conversations around civic engagement. The film tells the story of James, a young man disillusioned by Kenya’s political landscape, who is challenged by his sister Julian to reconsider the power and responsibility of participating in democratic processes. The film explores the tension between cynicism and hope, and ultimately encourages viewers to become active participants in shaping their communities.
Kasozi, a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production and Directing student, brings a thoughtful and socially conscious lens to his work. He was supported by a dedicated crew of fellow students, including Bukuru Sherif Stewart (Cinematographer), Antony Okoth (Sound Recordist), and Namara David (Production Assistant), who also plays the lead role of James in the film.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Kasozi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase his film on such a platform. “This film is a call to action. Many young people feel helpless or disillusioned when it comes to politics, but Get Involved is about challenging that mindset. I’m honored to share this message with a wider audience,” he said.
The Filamu International Student Film Festival serves as a springboard for young filmmakers to showcase their talents, network with industry professionals, and engage with film as a tool for education and social change. Get Involved will be screened alongside a variety of films that reflect the diversity, creativity, and social consciousness of Kenya’s next generation of filmmakers. Entry to the festival is free and open to the public.
