Ambassador Dennis Awori is a distinguished leader, seasoned diplomat, and accomplished business executive, with extensive experience across multiple sectors, including mobility, healthcare, renewable energy, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, banking, and technical education. His dynamic career spans over four decades, prominently across East Africa and the broader African continent, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to innovation, strategic leadership, and sustainable growth.
Ambassador Awori is currently the Chairman and Country Delegate of CFAO Mobility Kenya Limited and CFAO Kenya Limited and Executive Director of CFAO SAS (in Paris), subsidiaries of Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan. The CFAO Group has extensive operations across all 54 countries in Africa, in the key business domains of mobility, healthcare, consumer goods, agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
Previously, he served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Japan and Korea (2003-2009), where he significantly strengthened Kenya’s diplomatic and trade relations with Japan and played a pivotal role in establishing Kenya’s mission to Korea. His diplomatic tenure emphasized economic diplomacy, promoting robust private sector partnerships that fostered bilateral investments and cultural exchanges in both countries.
In the private sector, Ambassador Awori has held influential leadership positions, including Managing Director and Chairman roles within prominent multinational and listed corporations, such as Toyota Uganda Ltd, Lonrho Motors East Africa PLC, Toyota East Africa Ltd, Carbacid Investments PLC, East African Cables PLC and Bank of Africa Kenya Ltd. His corporate leadership has been marked by substantial contributions to organizational restructuring, strategic market expansions, and impactful board development.
Ambassador Awori has consistently demonstrated deep engagement with educational advancement. He chaired the Governing Council of the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) as it evolved into the Kenya School of Technical, Industrial, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Training (TIVET) and was instrumental in launching the Toyota Kenya Foundation, the Toyota Kenya Academy, and the David Wambuli Technical Training College. These institutions significantly advanced technical education and vocational training across Kenya, aligning with his commitment to empowering Africa’s youth through quality education and skills development.
Ambassador Awori’s leadership is complemented by his active involvement in various public and voluntary organizations. He has served as the founding Vice Chairman of the Kenya Private
Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Chairman of KEPSA, founding Chairman of the KEPSA Foundation, Trustee of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, board member of the Communications Commission of Kenya (now Communications Authority of Kenya) and Kenya’s Vision 2030 Delivery Board as well as in the Steering Committee of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
A passionate advocate for community service, Ambassador Awori has held prominent roles in numerous civic organizations, including as President of the Rotary Club of Nairobi East, President of the Nairobi Club, and Chairman of both the Kenya and Uganda Rugby Unions in consecutive terms. His active engagement in these roles underscores his deep-seated belief in community impact and corporate social responsibility.
Ambassador Awori earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Manchester, followed by Management Development Courses at Ashridge University in the United Kingdom and Emory Business College in the United States of America.
