On April 11, the Library Department celebrated the National Library Workers’ Day (NLWD), a significant occasion dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions of library professionals who keep knowledge accessible, services inclusive, and learning impactful. The event, held in the Library Conference Room, brought together library staff in recognition of the vital role they play in supporting academic and research excellence across the university.

In her opening remarks, the University Librarian, Dr. Sylvia Ogola, emphasized the importance of professional development in today’s rapidly changing information landscape. She reminded colleagues that the only way to remain relevant and responsive in the profession is through continuous learning and skills enhancement. Her message echoed a shared understanding that librarianship is not static it evolves alongside technology, user needs, and global information trends.

As the event concluded, it left behind a renewed sense of purpose and appreciation. As staff reflected on this meaningful day, they were reminded to continue celebrating not just the work they do, but the values they uphold access, knowledge, inclusion, and transformation.

National Library Workers’ Day serves not only as a moment of recognition, but also as an affirmation of the library’s unwavering commitment to supporting academic excellence and fostering a community of empowered learners. The event served as a reminder that the team of library workers are the unsung heroes behind the scenes, ensuring that the library is a welcoming space for discovery, creativity and support.
