Peer Educators and Counselors Club members inspire academic excellence at Woodcreek school

By Samuel Lutaaya

On March 7, the Peer Educators and Counselors Club (PECC) members visited Woodcreek school to speak to year 7 - 9 students about attitudes towards academics. With guidance from Ms. Adolphine Nyandoro, a senior counselor at the university’s counseling center, the club members delivered their insightful and engaging presentations.

Both the students and staff were excited to hear insights from club members in regard to academics. The discussions kicked off with an exciting ice breaker session in which club members got to know more about the students of Woodcreek and vice versa. After this brief session, PECC members delved into the contents of their presentations. Positive and negative factors that influence academic attitudes were discussed as well as the reasons why academics are important. The students were interactive throughout the discussion. They actively engaged with the content and asked very thoughtful questions to the presenters.

In addition to the vote of thanks from representatives of the three classes, the school staff also commended PECC club members for their presentation skills and ability to tackle the day’s subject matter and further extended an invite to the university to go back for more sessions. The day was commemorated through a picture featuring PECC members, Ms. Adolphine, and representatives from Woodcreek.

This visit was very fruitful providing the university students with the opportunity to apply their skills and expertise towards a community outside of campus. The club hopes for more collaborations with Woodcreek school in the future. This is also a great opportunity for PECC to market the university in high schools.
