“The reputation of a university is built on the foundation of its alumni's success and their commitment to giving back.”
The Alumni Relations Department hosted a breakfast meeting on Wednesday, February 19, at Safari Park Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders to celebrate the progress and growth of alumni engagement within the USIU-Africa community.
The event brought together representatives from the University Advancement and Partnerships Division, the Strategic Marketing and Communications Division, the USIU-Africa Alumni Association Council, members of the 2024 Alumni Homecoming Organizing Committee, and the USIU-Africa Beyond Magazine 2024 editorial team.
Dr. Michael Kisilu, Head of Alumni Relations, highlighted the Department’s milestones, including the successful CEO Roundtable events, the launch of alumni chapters in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Uganda, and the expansion of alumni networks in Tanzania and South Sudan. He commended the dedication of the alumni committee members and the editorial team for their invaluable contributions to the USIU-Africa Beyond Magazine 2024.
Ms. Claire Aduvuka, Chair of the USIU-Africa Alumni Homecoming Committee, reflected on the challenges and triumphs of organizing the 2024 Homecoming Ceremony, which saw an impressive turnout of 500 alumni on December 12, 2024.
Mr. Eannes Ongus, Director of University Advancement and Partnerships, emphasized the importance of strengthening alumni involvement with the university. He announced the introduction of the USIU-Africa Alumni ID Card, available at KES 1,000 valid for three years. This initiative aims to enhance access to the university and foster a deeper sense of affiliation among alumni. To mark the occasion, Mr. Ongus personally handed over alumni ID cards to attendees.
In recognition of their contributions to fostering alumni engagement, Hannah Moturi, Chair of the USIU-Africa Alumni Association Council, presented certificates of appreciation to the Alumni Homecoming Organizing Committee and the Alumni Magazine editorial team.
The breakfast meeting reinforced USIU-Africa’s commitment to sustaining strong alumni relations and set the stage for future initiatives, including the preparation of the USIU-Africa Alumni Awards to be held in the course of this year.
As USIU-Africa continues to nurture its alumni network, this event served as a reminder that the legacy of a university is not just in its history but in the lives of its alumni who carry its spirit forward.
