By Elizabeth Afurika
On Thursday, February 20, the Psychology Club held a discussion on ‘Careers in Psychology: A Diverse Perspective’ and was attended by over 100 students. The panel discussions were led by three panelists Lambert Oigara, Vaish Navi Mohan, and Daisy Muthari.
Lambert Oigara is a clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience ranging from creating the certification exam for addiction counselors with the National Authority for the campaign against alcohol and drug abuse, co-founding CBT Kenya, and treating a vast range of disorders. Lambert shared unforgettable insight on knowing oneself, playing to individual strengths, and balancing drive with self-care. Lambert was a remarkable addition to the panel and gave attendees insights into the realities of this field, especially when running a private practice.
Vaish Navi Mohan has over twelve years of experience in management consultancy with companies like Deloitte, Safaricom, I&M and so many more. Vaish discussed industrial, organizational, and social psychology and emphasized the importance of chasing opportunities and keeping an open mind. She repeated that the womb-to-tomb careers of the past are gone and the current market requires flexibility and the drive to commit to excellence no matter the opportunity.
Finally, Daisy Muthari enriched the discussion with her stellar background in clinical and medical psychology. In addition to creating the online psychiatric treatment resource Mindnest Psychotherapy, she has taught medical psychology at Alupe University, practiced counseling, and developed the addiction and counseling program for Oasis Hospital. Audience members and even event managers were enraptured by her journey.
