Recognizing the importance of accreditation, the Electoral College Representatives of the School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA), in collaboration with the Dean, Chair of the Department, and various faculty members partnered with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) to conduct an accreditation drive. This attracted over 60 Kenyan and international students who participated in the drive, eager to gain industry recognition and credibility.
This milestone marks a significant step in formally recognizing SCCCA students as emerging professionals committed to journalistic excellence. By securing MCK accreditation, they now have the credentials to access industry events, establish credibility, and enhance their career prospects. Beyond individual benefits, this initiative strengthens SCCCA’s reputation as a hub for skilled and ethical media practitioners.
For student journalists and content creators, accreditation by MCK is more than just a badge, it is a gateway to credibility, professionalism, and opportunity. The accreditation grants students access to press events, briefings, and real-world reporting opportunities, allowing them to gain firsthand industry experience. It also enhances their credibility, ensuring their work is recognized as professional and ethical, making them more trusted by sources and potential employers.
Additionally, accreditation provides legal protection and aligns students with industry ethical standards, safeguarding their journalistic integrity. It bridges the gap between academics and professional practice by facilitating internships, mentorships, and media house opportunities. Beyond traditional journalism, it also legitimizes digital content creators and filmmakers alike, expanding their reach and professional standing in an evolving media landscape, giving them a stronger foundation to negotiate better opportunities.
Moving forward, it sets a precedent for continued collaboration between the university and key industry stakeholders, ensuring that student journalists and content creators are equipped with the tools, recognition, and opportunities they need to thrive.
