USIU-Africas Ubuntu Hub celebrates successful completion of leadership training
By Wambui Cheche and Brenda Odhiambo
The Ubuntu Hub Transformative Leadership Training, facilitated by the Ubuntu Lab Institute, concluded on Tuesday, February 4. The Ubuntu Lab is a hands-on learning program designed for change-makers, emerging and established leaders, and innovators across Africa. As the regional expression of the Presencing Institute's U-School, Ubuntu Lab fosters a vibrant community of African leaders committed to addressing pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. The program is run in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in interactive learning hubs operating across different African time zones. They attended virtual sessions featuring Ubuntu Lab faculty and guest speakers, covering core leadership concepts such as active listening, empathy walks, stakeholder interviews, journaling, and 3D-prototyping.
Even after completing the program, participants will continue refining their prototypes and receiving mentorship during virtual office hours. The journey will culminate in March 2025, with a pitch competition where the top 10 prototypes will share a $20,000 prize for project implementation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ms. Linet Aguko, Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, applauded the participants for their commitment to the six-month leadership journey and encouraged them to share their insights and experiences with other young leaders.
The Ubuntu Hub initiative continues to empower Africa’s next generation of leaders, equipping them with the tools to drive meaningful change in their communities.
