Empowering students through interactive coaching: Mastering project presentation and pitching

By Caroline Kausi

On January 24 and 31, students, and industry professionals gathered for two insightful coaching sessions hosted by the IT Club. These sessions focused on enhancing students’ project presentation skills and mastering the art of pitching with a strong cost model. The events were highly interactive and student-centered, providing valuable insights into effective communication and business strategy.

The first session, held on January 24 featured Jennifer W. Gachukia, who led a discussion on ‘Introduction to Project Presentation’. The session emphasized key elements of effective project communication, including structuring presentations, engaging an audience, and articulating ideas clearly. Students actively participated, shared their experiences and received personalized feedback on their presentation techniques.

The second session, held on January 31 was facilitated by Dr. David Njihia. Titled ‘Mastering the Art of Pitching: Building a Winning Cost Model’, the session provided a comprehensive guide on developing persuasive pitches with strong financial foundations. Under the theme ‘From Vision to Value: Crafting a Persuasive Pitch with a Strong Cost Model’, students learned how to effectively present their business ideas, structure cost models, and secure funding. The session also included an online participation option, ensuring accessibility to a wider audience.

Both coaching sessions were interactive, with students engaging in discussions, asking insightful questions, and participating in practical exercises. The facilitators provided real-world examples, making the learning experience more relatable and impactful.

These sessions underscored the Club's commitment to empowering students with essential skills for innovation and entrepreneurship. By equipping students with the tools to communicate their ideas effectively and develop strong financial models, the club is fostering a culture of excellence and strategic thinking among the university community.

The impact of these sessions extends beyond the classroom, preparing students for future opportunities in academia, entrepreneurship, and industry. With continued mentorship and training, the next generation of innovators at USIU-Africa is well-positioned for success.
