USIU-Africa takes part in the 13th Annual East African Higher Education Quality Assurance Forum

By Philip Machoka

Dr. Philip Machoka, Director of e-Learning at USIU-Africa Online, represented the institution at the 13th Annual East African Higher Education Quality Assurance Forum held at Safari Park Hotel held from September 9 to 12, 2024.The theme for the forum was "Advancing Quality of Higher Education Through International Cooperation and Networking, Harmonization, and Integration."

Dr. Machoka took part in a panel discussion with Vice Chancellors drawn from several institutions to talk about the transformative role of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. The discussion focused on the innovations, challenges, and opportunities presented by AI and other emerging technologies. Prof. Kuria, the CEO of the Commission of University Education (CUE), shared valuable insights during the discussion.

One of the key takeaways from the forum was the significant attention given to assessment and academic integrity in the age of AI. It became evident that more training is needed for faculty and administrators on AI's ethical and responsible use. This is a challenge that institutions must address, along with the establishment of AI policies to guide their operations moving forward.

The resolutions from the forum will be shared with Vice Chancellors soon, providing valuable guidance for USIU-Africa as we navigate the evolving landscape of higher education.
