39 Mastercard Foundation Scholars at USIU-Africa Selected as Millennium Fellows
39 Mastercard Foundation Scholars have been selected as Millennium Fellows, out of a total of 51 students representing USIU-Africa in the Fellowship. The Millennium Fellowship is a joint initiative of the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network, aimed at recognizing and supporting student-led projects that contribute to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year, more than 52,000 young leaders from over 6,000 campuses across 170 countries applied to join the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024. Out of these, only 280 campuses worldwide, representing just 5% of applicants, were selected to host the 4,000+ Millennium Fellows.
As part of the Millennium Fellowship program, the 51 USIU-Africa students will join a global cohort of talented and passionate young leaders. Over the course of the fellowship, they will participate in training, networking, and mentorship opportunities designed to help them develop tangible solutions to global sustainability challenges.
USIU-Africa is one of the 17 universities in Kenya selected to participate in the Millennium Fellowship program. The Millennium Fellows will embark on a journey to build the skills necessary for a career rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to undertaking the Millennium Fellowship curriculum in tandem with Fellowship cohorts on their university campuses, Millennium Fellows each undertake a social impact project - either as individuals or in groups - to advance one or more of the 17 SDGs and 10 UNAI principles.
