USIU-Africa Online hosts virtual orientation for new online graduate programs

Last Friday, USIU-Africa Online hosted a virtual orientation for students joining its newly launched online graduate programs. The session, which followed the Blackboard orientation held in the previous week, aimed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the university’s digital learning environment, as well as to key academic and support services.

Led by a team of facilitators, drawn from various departments in the university, the session covered a range of topics to prepare students for their academic journey. These included overviews of ICT services, the library's digital resources, student life services, and academic advising. The orientation also featured breakout rooms where students had the opportunity to meet with deans and program leads to learn more about their specific courses.

The Blackboard orientation, held earlier in the previous week, focused on introducing students to the university's Learning Management System (LMS). Dr. Bernadette Kiarie and Ernest Andugo led students through Blackboard’s features, such as course navigation, assignment submissions, and communication tools. This earlier session ensured that students were equipped to engage with the platform for their coursework.

USIU-Africa's new online programs, including the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, Master of Arts in Communication Studies, and the revamped Master of Business Administration (MBA), are designed to provide flexible learning options for working professionals, international students, and lifelong learners. This virtual orientation marks the beginning of their journey toward achieving academic and professional success through innovative digital platforms.

The university’s broader strategy to support its online learners includes rolling out additional virtual orientations, academic advising, and technical support to ensure students have all the tools necessary for success. As USIU-Africa continues to expand its digital learning offerings, these initiatives demonstrate a commitment to creating a supportive, dynamic, and flexible online learning environment for students across the region and beyond.
