Brief History.

USIU Africa FREIDA BROWN DAY is the annual university wide community service day. The day is set aside for the university community come together and contribute to the surrounding neighborhood by engaging in acts of service activities such as environmental cleanups, renovations, donations among others. The initiative is based on the university’s core values of giving back and working for the common good. This year’s event will focus on creating a sustainable future by addressing climate change and waste management, with a specific emphasis on training, education, and practical action. The day will also be celebrated as a homecoming for the homecoming of the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi.

Background of the institutions to be visited.

These institutions have played pivotal roles in the community's educational development.

  1. Wings of Compassion Rescue Home in Marurui

Founded 12 years by Rev. Danshire and his wife, Dorcas Danshire to give hope to vulnerable and hopeless pregnant teenage girls a new lease of life. The home rescues 15 years and below pregnant girls who are total orphans and most vulnerable. Most cases being of Incest, gang rape and early marriages. The home provides food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education, professional counselling, mentorship, life skills and spiritual nourishment.

  1. Friends Anduru Education Center in Korogocho

Friends Anduru Educational Center is a registered community school located at the center of Korogocho Slums in Nairobi Kenya. The school was established in January 2021 with the aim of providing basic education to less fortunate children in Korogocho and its environs. The school has a population of 210 pupils and 11 staff members. The school is from preschool to grade seven.

  1. Garden Estate Primary school and ECD Center

The Garden Estate Primary School is an ordinary public educational institute in Roysambu, Kasarani, Kenya. The school has a population of 802 pupils, and 107 preschoolers This school is managed / sponsored by local government authority.

  1. Brook School for the Deaf and Autistic Children

Brook School for the Deaf and Autistic Children is a nonprofit Learning center for children with special needs located in Kasarani, Zimmerman estate Nairobi-Kenya. The disabled children include; Deaf, Autistic and cerebral pulse children who are orphaned, with both parents but from poor backgrounds in accordance with the Act of Parliament, Disability Act of 2003, The Kenya Constitution-Children Act of 1983, Ministry of Gender and Children under National Council for Person with Disability and Ministry of Education (special education) Guidelines. The school was established by Kenya Deaf Agenda. The organization was founded to cater for the welfare of the disabled children within our society through; Curriculum Education, vocational training, rescue and rehabilitation of Deaf, Autistic, Cerebral pulse children from poor families and informal settlements.
