Alumni Profile: Idris Muktar
Idris Muktar is a distinguished alumnus of USIU-Africa (Class of 2017), where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations. He also holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently stationed in Zambia, Idris was appointed as a Communications Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change in June 2024, marking his latest major appointment.
With over a decade of experience as a journalist and media specialist focused on governance related topics, Idris leverages his expertise to support organizations and policy leaders in crafting strategic communication strategies that strengthen governance and facilitate informed decision-making.
In his previous role as Special Advisor to the African Union Youth Envoy, Idris led media relations and content strategy. His extensive experience includes significant news coverage as a producer for CNN International in East and Southern Africa and as an East Africa Correspondent for the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW). Idris has also reported on security and refugee issues from Kenya and produced impactful television features showcasing Africa’s business, culture, and technology sectors. His work has been featured on global platforms like CNN International, Deutsche Welle, and Al Jazeera English.
