Mastercard Foundation Scholar Mentors at USIU-Africa hold mentorship session with the SHOFCO Kibera School for Girls

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, the Mastercard Foundation Scholar Mentors at USIU-Africa conducted a mentorship session with Form 2 to Form 4 students from the SHOFCO Kibera School for Girls at the Nairobi Arboretum. The Mentors and students spent the morning painting, which provided an opportunity for them to interact, bond, and learn a new skill together.
The topics discussed during the session were carefully selected to align with the students' class levels. For the Form 4 students, the focus was on the transition from high school. The Mentors covered topics such as preparing for final exams, transitioning to tertiary institutions, and exploring opportunities for scholarships. For the Form 3 students, the session emphasized early preparation for final exams, including discussions on non-traditional career paths, setting SMART goals, and building a culture of success. The Form 2 students received guidance on selecting subjects based on career goals, time management, handling distractions, and overcoming peer pressure.
The SHOFCO Kibera School for Girls has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation Scholar Mentors at USIU-Africa for the past two years to mentor their high school students during school holidays. This collaboration has been fruitful, with some of the girls already transitioning into Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa.
