Mastercard Foundation Scholar Carine Ishimwe Selected for Prestigious Moonshot Young Leaders Camp

Carine Ishimwe, a Mastercard Foundation Scholar in the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology program, was selected as a finalist for the Moonshot Young Leaders Camp, which recently concluded in the Czech Republic on Friday, July 19. This prestigious camp provided a unique platform for young innovators to connect with peers from around the world and receive mentorship from esteemed professionals.
The Moonshot Young Leaders Camp brought together 70 young leaders from over 90 countries, selected from nearly 500 submissions. Participants engaged with 30 C-Suite mentors and partook in various enriching activities designed to accelerate their personal and professional growth. Highlights of the camp included meeting the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, attending thought-provoking seminars, participating in embodiment workshops, and receiving personalized feedback on their social ventures.
Nominated by Ellen Taylor from the International Telecommunication Union Generation Connect, Carine was chosen for her groundbreaking project, Unity Lens, a virtual storytelling app designed to educate future generations about the Genocide in Rwanda. The project is currently under development and aims to preserve Rwanda's history while promoting peace, justice, quality education, and strong institutions, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Carine expressed her excitement about the opportunity, stating that the camp will significantly enhance her personal and professional growth. The Moonshot Camp is renowned for accelerating the development of young leaders working on innovative projects that have the potential to make a substantial impact on society and the environment.
In addition to her work on Unity Lens, Carine is also the founder of the Twitezimbere Initiative, which equips economically disadvantaged teen mothers with tailoring skills for entrepreneurial success. As an International Telecommunication Union Generation Connect Youth Envoy Africa Representative, Carine advocates for inclusive digital connectivity, aiming to empower youth globally.
