Our host and moderator
Ms. Helen Ambasa, Director-Legal Services at USIU-Africa.
The webinar will be hosted and moderated by Ms. Helen Ambasa, a certified globally engaged leader, lawyer and accredited governance auditor with over 19 years’ experience in Kenya in both the public and private sector. She joined USIU-Africa after a stint in Government where she rose through the ranks from Senior Legal Officer to Acting Corporation Secretary.
She is well versed with the Kenyan legal system and regulatory environment as well as the global operating environment. She is a member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya and the Law Society of Kenya. She serves as a Board member with the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) where she chairs the Finance & Audit Committee. She has served as a Board member on the NITA Sectoral Training Committee. Her current role involves providing efficient and effective legal services at USIU-Africa with an emphasis on commercial & corporate law, Intellectual Property law, employment and labor related issues.

1. Kananu Mutea, Partner & Head of Dispute Resolution at Gikera & Vadgama Advocates
Kananu is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 14 years’ experience under her belt. She is a Partner heading the dispute resolution team at Gikera & Vadgama Advocates.
She specializes in advising on risk mitigation arising from commercial contracts, company restructuring, employment, family arrangements, financial arrangements, property disputes: including intellectual, moveable and immoveable property. She is an alumni of The Kenya High School and Nagpur University, India. Kananu is a trained arbitrator, mediator and negotiator. Kananu has had work experience in London with well-regarded firms: White & Case, Slaughter & May and Stephenson Harwood in London.
She is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Law Society Nairobi Branch Mediation Bar Bench Committee, accredited by the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration as a mediator and on the roll of the Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre.
2. Felix M. Mung’ara, Associate at Gikera & Vadgama Advocates
Felix is an Advocate of the High Court with 6 years’ experience and is presently a senior associate in the Corporate & Commercial Department at Gikera & Vadgama Advocates.
He has extensive experience in transactional, non-contentious and contentious, advisory work. Felix’s client base is broad and includes startups, local and foreign investors whom he advises on legal processes and procedures in immigration, employment, licensing, structuring, and optimizing legal vehicles, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and requirements. He also advises on protection of intellectual property in Kenya through international organizations such as ARIPO. Felix has experience in ICT and telecommunications.
Having previously worked as an in-house lawyer, he is responsive to client needs. Felix is an alumnus of Kenyatta University and has a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
3. Emmanuel Otieno Ouma
Emmanuel is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and presently an associate in the Dispute Resolution Department at Gikera & Vadgama Advocates (GVA).
He has experience in Arbitration, Commercial Litigation, Constitutional & Administrative Law, Employment & Pensions, as well as Environment & Land. He advises corporates in the manufacturing, telecoms, logistics, freight, and airline sectors and acts for government agencies and private clients.
Emmanuel engages with clients on legal risk mitigation and provides training on emerging legal issues and has collaborated with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers providing insights on contract manufacturing. He writes and trains on emerging areas of law.
Emmanuel is an alumnus of Moi University and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Financial Law and Regulations at Strathmore University.
