Prof Kenoye K Eke, Sr

Prof. Kenoye K. Eke, Sr. is retired Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development at Jarvis Christian University (JCU) in Texas, USA. Prior to joining the executive leadership of JCU, he served as Provost, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and as Visiting Professor of Political Science at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. His non-academic affairs roles include service as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Grambling State University, and as Director of The Spectrum Initiative at the American Council on Education (ACE) in Washington, DC.

Formerly, Prof. Eke served as Provost and Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, and as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Operating Officer at Kentucky State University. His administrative experience includes service as Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs at California State University, Monterey Bay, and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Full Professor of Political Science at Savannah State University.

He received the Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) and the B.A. in Political Science, with highest honors, from Alabama A & M University. Prof. Eke has the Institute for Educational Management Certificate and the Management Development Program Certificate from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. He has done other post-doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Furthermore, Prof. Eke has served as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow; a fellow of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU’s) Millennian Leadership Initiative (MLI); Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Postsecondary and Higher Education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; a Pew Faculty Fellow in International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government; and a Research Fellow at the University of Florida’s Center for African Studies

A scholar of international affairs, Prof. Eke’s research focus on U.S. - African Relations, Intra-African Relations, Weapons Proliferation in Africa, Conflict Resolution in Africa, and Media Coverage of Terrorism. He has authored and co-edited two books and numerous publications and presentations. His publications include Nigerian Foreign Policy Under Two Military Governments,1966-1979: An Analysis of the Gowon and Mohamed/Obasanjo Regimes (The Edwin Mellen Press); Media Coverage of Terrorism: Methods of Diffusion, with A. Odasuo Alali as co-editor, (Sage Publications); and several book chapters and articles. He has made invited and conference presentations at several universities and professional conferences.

A student of American higher education, he has served as a consultant to several American universities and media organizations. His consultancy work includes his role as a member of a five-member AASCU Assessment Team working with the Government of Liberia to reform Liberia’s higher education system.

An activist scholar, Prof. Eke is an advocate for greater collaboration between Africanists and grassroots activists and organizations in their local communities aimed at raising community awareness of African issues and concerns. This advocacy led him to coordinate and serve as founding President of the Pan African Awareness Association of Volusia County Florida, a group that included academics and grassroots activists from several Central Florida counties. Dr. Eke’s advocacy has not been limited to local and regional matters, he was very active in the National Summit on Africa (NSOA) movement having served that effort in the following capacities: Chair of the Peace and Security section at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Pre-Summit in Los Angeles; Co-Chair of the Peace and Security Theme at the Pacific Regional Summit in San Francisco, June 1999; Chair of the Kentucky delegation to the National Summit in Washington DC; and Team Leader of the Co-Chairs for the Peace and Security Theme at the National Summit on Africa in Washington, DC, February, 2000.

Prof. Eke has received awards and commendations from several professional associations and institutions, including the 2024 Spark Award from the East Texas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), a national organization for professional fundraisers. And, he has served on the Board of Directors of several local, regional and international organizations and institutions.
