Nelisa Ngqulana

PR & Communications Practitioner, South Africa

I have gained more than 15 years' experience through opportunities in the financial services (with companies such as Old Mutual and Metropolitan Health Group), NGO, publishing

and PR & Media consulting sectors. Seven of these years have been spent at senior management level. I have studied Journalism, International Relations & Media. I am currently serving as the Head of Communications and Public Awareness for the Community Constituency Front, a network of CSO networks created by the NEDLAC Community Trust and the SA National Aids Council as a community-based response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During 2017, I was part of the Wits Journalism and Media Lab (JAMLAB) Fellowship working on a media innovation project - building a virtual newsroom. My virtual newsroom concept was one of the South African Media Innovation Programme’s Innovation Challenge winners in 2017 . In 2019, I completed the Future Females Business School program. The program was sponsored by the UK South Africa Tech Hub. The program was created to support female entrepreneurs in the tech and digital space with business planning and digital marketing skills.

Currently, I am running my own agency, PR Trends ZA , offering reputation and crisis management, training and strategy & content development . I'm also the founder of Coding Mamas , a tech startup that teaches moms and kids digital skills. An integral part of my work as a PR and Communications practitioner involves training which ranges from one-on-one training of executives and entrepreneurs to groups of CSO leaders.

Through my company, I run PR masterclasses and custom-workshop built according to client specifications. These range from media training, social media training to brand reviews and vision planning. The training sessions have grown my events management portfolio.

On the public relations and media side, my experience ranges from crisis & reputation management; media training; acting as spokesperson for organisations such as South African Municipal Workers’ Union Medical Aid Scheme, ACTIVATE! Change Drivers and Children’s Radio Foundation; concept and content development. My biggest passion is using digital platforms to champion social justice issues like gender-based violence, gender equality, community safety and youth development.
