Prof. Crispus Kiamba is a member of the Governing Board of the UNESCO-affiliated International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation (ISTIC), the Advisory Council (MAC) of the World Bank African Higher Education Centers of Excellence (ACE) Project, Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) of the World Bank-affiliated Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET), and Evaluation Review.
Prof. Kiambi holds a B.A. in Land Economics from the University of Nairobi; a Master’s of Science from the University of Reading; a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge; and an Executive Certificate on Science, Technology and Innovation from Harvard University. He has been a public servant for an extended period of time; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Permanent Secretary of the newly-established Ministry of Science and Technology; member of the Council of Public Universities in Kenya, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission for University Education, and the Vice-Chancellor of Kenya’s oldest university – the University of Nairobi.
Moreover he has served in many other academic, administrative and management capacities at the University of Nairobi, including Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance, Principal of the College of Architecture and Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment, Chairman of the Department of Real Estate and Construction Management and Member of Kenya’s National Economic and Social Council and Vision 2030 Implementation Board.
On Board matters, Prof. Kiamba has served as a Board member of international organizations in higher education, science and technology, including the Governing Council of the Centre for Science and Technology of Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre), Board of Management of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan Endowment Fund (CSFP-EF), the Joint Expert Group (JEG8) for the 8th Africa-EU Strategic Partnership for Science, Information Society and Space, Inter- Universities Council of East Africa (IUCEA); member and Chairman of the Governing Board of the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD), and member of the Board of Trustees of the Kenya Education Network (KENET). Prof. Kiamba has been recognized nationally through two Presidential Awards, i.e., the Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS) and Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS). In 2010, he was also internationally recognized by winning two awards:- the Association of Commonwealth Universities Symons Award for outstanding contributions to higher education, science and technology in the Commonwealth; and the Certiport Middle East and Africa Educator of the Year.
