Case Development Team in FY 2004-2005

The FY 2004–2005 Case Development Team comprised of 11 members, namely one Project Manager – Dr. Meoli Kashorda, four Lead Case Developers – Dr. George K’Aol, Dr. Peter Lewa, Dr. Gerald Chege and Mr. Charles Mayaka, five Assistant Case Developers – Dr. Catherine Munene, Dr. Mbithe Anzaya, Dr. Peter Kiriri, Mr. Francis Gatumo and Mrs. Teresia Linge and one Project Administrator & Research Associate – Mr. Duncan Muguku.

Case Development Team in FY 2005-2006

Dr. Meoli Kashorda  
Dr. Meoli Kashorda obtained a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1981 from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, an M.Sc. in Telecommunications and Information Systems in 1988 and a Ph.D. in Electronic Systems Engineering in 1991 both from the University of Essex, England. He is an associate professor of information systems and the immediate former Dean in the School of Business at United States International University, Nairobi, Kenya. He had been a member of the University’s Management Council since 1999.

   

   

Mr. Charles Mayaka
Mr. Mayaka is an assistant professor of marketing. He obtained both a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Kurukshetra University. Mr. Mayaka is about to complete his DBA from Alliant International University. His dissertation topic is “Diffusion and adoption of ICT by the hospitality industry in Kenya.” His research interests include: International business/International trade, adoption of e-commerce by businesses in developing countries and the effects of western influences on consumer behaviour in Africa. Mr. Mayaka is the coordinator of Management and Marketing subject areas at USIU. He took over as the Case Project Manager in September 2005. Mr. Mayaka has developed case studies on Safaricom, Bidco, Firestone (EA) Limited (now Sameer Africa), Magadi Soda and Unga Limited.

Dr. George K’Aol
Dr. George O. K’Aol is an Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship in the School of Business at United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi, Kenya. He is also the Acting Director of the Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship Development in the School of Business. 

 

Dr. K’Aol has a B. Ed degree (1st Class) in Industrial Education and Technology from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, Advanced Diploma (Honors) in Electronics Engineering Technology from Seneca College of Applied Technology, Toronto, Canada, a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development and a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. His areas of specialization include entrepreneurship development, human resource development, management of technological innovations, and total quality management.

 

Dr. K’Aol has long experience of teaching and research at university level. He served as a Director of the Institute of Human Resource Development at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology for two years before joining USIU in 1997. He also has many years of experience in consultancy with local and international organizations including World Bank, USAID, and UNDP among others.

Dr. K’Aol has taught using cases at MBA level and has written four cases on Alpha Medical Manufacturers, Mabati Rolling Mills, Homegrown and Magana Flowers.

   

   
Dr. Peter Lewa
Dr. Lewa graduated with a doctorate degree in development administration from Birmingham University in UK in 1995. He holds a masters degree in Development Finance from Birmingham University in UK and a Bachelor of commerce degree from University of Nairobi. He has been a lecturer in various institutions in Kenya. He also holds a Diploma in Marketing (CIM-UK), Diploma in Purchasing & Supply (CIPS – UK), Diploma in Supplies Management (KIA), certificate in training (ESAMI) and certificate in Training of Trainers (KIA).

Dr. Lewa is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (UK), Development Studies Association (UK), NACRA (USA), WACRA (USA) and International Academy of Africa Business and Development (IAABD) among others.

Dr. Lewa is an associate Professor of management at USIU. His areas of specialization are: development administration, development finance, strategic management, marketing, projects management, management simulation, and purchasing and supplies management. He has written a case on Firestone East Africa (now Sameer Africa).  

   

   
Dr. Gerald Chege
Dr. Chege is an assistant professor of information systems and technology at USIU. Dr. Chege graduated with a BSc (Physics), 1st class honors from the University of Nairobi (UoN), and then did an MSc (Electrical Engineering) at University of York.  After teaching for one year at UoN, he did a PhD (Parallel Computing) at University of York (1988-1991). He then taught at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Nairobi for four years before joining USIU.

Dr. Chege has over 10 years of teaching and consulting experience in companies which include KTDA, Kenya Pipeline, KARI, and Tourist Trust Fund.  He is the coordinator of Information Systems and Technology at USIU. He has written case studies on Commercial Bank of Africa, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and Symphony.

   

   
Dr. Catherine Munene
Dr. Munene holds a doctorate degree from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia. She also holds a masters degree from the University of Notre Dame. Before joining USIU, Dr. Munene had been a tutor and a lecturer at Edith Cowan University. She is currently an assistant professor of marketing at USIU. She has written a case on Kenya Airways and has assisted in developing a case on Davis & Shirtliff Limited.
   

   

Dr. Mbithe Anzaya

Dr. Anzaya holds a Ph.D. specializing in Strategic Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics from Kenyatta University with First Class Honors in 1985. Thereafter, she pursued her graduate studies at the same university, obtaining a Master of Education degree in 1987. She is a member of the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Dr. Anzaya has undertaken consultancy in various projects, such as nutrition, primary health care and food security for several organizations including SmithKline Beecham International, Danish Development Agency (DANIDA), and Medical Assistance Program International. She is an assistant professor of management at USIU. Dr. Anzaya has assisted in writing a case on Bidco, Commercial Bank of Africa and Magadi Soda. She has also developed a case on Davis and Shirtliff.

 

   

Dr. Peter Kiriri
Dr. Kiriri is an assistant professor of marketing at USIU. Dr. Kiriri has a Doctorate degree in Business administration from Southern Cross University, Australia. He holds a postgraduate Diploma in marketing, from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK. He has been a lecturer in management and marketing at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya and a part-time lecturer, Graduate College of Management, Southern Cross University, Australia.

Dr. Kiriri has also worked for Caltex Oil (K) Limited and Procter & Gamble (EA) Limited. He has assisted in writing a case on Mabati Rolling Mills. Dr. Kiriri has also written a case on Wananchi Online Limited.

   

   

Mr. Francis Gatumo

Mr. Gatumo is an assistant professor of finance at USIU.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and an MBA from York University (Canada). Mr. Gatumo is a practicing accountant and secretary. He has broad experience in the private and public sector spanning over a period of 25 years. During that time, Prof. Gatumo has been able to establish an accountancy school and a rural based Sacco.
 

Mr. Gatumo has been instrumental in the resuscitation of a number of coffee cooperative societies. He was also the liquidator of 3 large cooperative societies in Eastern province of Kenya. Mr. Gatumo has taught finance and accounting at both the University of Nairobi and the Kenya Institute of Administration. He has assisted in writing a case on Alpha Medical Manufacturers and Mabati Rolling Mills. Mr. Gatumo has also developed a case on Athi River Mining Limited.

 

   

   

Mrs. Teresia Linge

Mrs. Linge is a full-time lecturer at USIU. She lectures management with specialties in Human Resource Management, Cross Cultural Management and Business Communications. She is pursuing a PhD program at the University of Nairobi. Mrs. Linge holds a Bachelor of Education degree (Hons) from University of Nairobi and a Masters in Business Administration from United States International University. She has assisted in writing cases on Kenya Tea Development Agency, Magana Flowers and Athi River Mining.

 

   

Mr. Jimmy Macharia

Mr. Macharia is an assistant professor of information systems at USIU. He hold a B.Ed.;  M.Sc. (Mathematics) from Kenyatta University and an M.Sc.(Computer Science), from the University of Adelaide (Australia). Mr. Macharia has assisted in developing case studies on Wananchi Online and Symphony.

 

   

Dr. Francis Wambalaba

Dr. Wambalaba is an associate professor of economics and has a Doctorate degree in Urban Studies (1993), a Masters in Urban Studies, a Masters in Economics and Bachelors in Economics and Business Administration from Portland State University, Oregon.

 

Dr. Wambalaba is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Since 1984, he has taught at Portland State University, Portland Community College, Clark College, Marylhurst University, University of South Florida and currently at USIU. Dr. Wambalaba has also worked as a Transportation Planner for the City of Portland and a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Urban Transportation Research in the USA. Dr. Wambalaba has assisted in writing a case on Homegrown Limited.

 

   

Mrs. Dipti Fernandes

Mrs. Fernandes is a Lecturer at the USIU School of Business.  She holds a B.A. and MBA from United States International University, Kenya. Her specialty areas are: communication, Total Quality Management; social accountability; leadership and management and entrepreneurship. Mrs. Fernandes has assisted in developing a case study on Unga Limited.

   

   

Ms. Fostina Mani

Ms. Fostina Mani holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Information Systems from Northern Kentucky University, and is currently finalizing her Masters in Business Administration degree, Information Technology and Entrepreneurship concentrations from the United States International University.  Ms. Mani has worked in various IT capacities with WHO Somalia/South Sudan, the law firm of Hamilton, Harrison and Mathews, Abercrombie & Kent Tour Operators, and Star Bank in Cincinnati.
